The ACT Secondary Schools Writing Prize 2016
The Stella Prize is partnering with Noted Festival to present the ACT Secondary Schools Writing Prize! The prize, judged by Simmone Howell, Steph Bowe and Zoya Patel, is open until 19 February 2016 to female-identifying secondary students from the Australian Capital Territory. And the theme is…
A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction…(Virginia Woolf)
Woolf’s ideas about writing were groundbreaking, but what do women today need in order to write? What does it or would it mean to you as a young woman to have a mental and physical space to think and create, undisturbed and unobserved?
Your submission may be fiction OR creative nonfiction. Your work may address the above question directly, or look more generally at the themes of freedom, family, identity, poverty, place, creativity, independence and empowerment. Or, simply write the story or nonfiction piece you would write if you had a room of your own.
The winner of the ACT Secondary Schools Writing Prize will receive:
- publication in the Canberra Times
- a certificate and a book pack.
The writer of the highly commended entry will receive:
- publication on the Noted Festival blog
- a certificate and a book pack
Both the winning and the highly commended student will be announced and awarded by Stella Prize ambassadors at a special event on Thursday 17 March at Gorman Arts Centre.
See the Noted website for more information and to enter your work!
