19/11/2016: Australian Women Writers Edit-A-Thon
Wikipedia has a gender issue. Globally, only 9% of its contributors are women, and only an estimated 15% of its biography pages are of women.
To address the underrepresentation of women on Wikipedia, the Stella Prize and Hot Chicks with Big Brains are hosting an Australian Women Writers Edit-A-Thon.
We’re inviting you to join us for a relaxed, inclusive and fun afternoon of improving Wikipedia entries for Australian women writers, celebrating their achievements and preserving their legacies.
We’ll be focusing on revising and improving Wikipedia entries for Australian writers past and present – from Barbara Baynton, Oodgeroo Noonuccal and Eleanor Dark, to more contemporary authors including Stella Prize winners, shortlistees and longlistees. If you’ve never contributed to Wikipedia before, we’ll show you how. If you’re not sure which author’s page you’d like to improve, we can offer suggestions of writers whose pages could use some love, based on your reading habits. If you run into any issues, we’ll be there to help.
RSVP to confirm your spot, and for all the info you’ll need ahead of the day.
