Burke (The Story of Tom Brennan, The Things We Promise), Amie Kaufman (Illuminae, These Broken Stars) and Mariko Tamaki (Skim, This One Summer) still have to battle stereotypes in their books and their careers. We unfortunately are still living in a time when female authors are pigeonholed and gender stereotypes affect readers as well as characters.
