Girls Write Up Canberra 2017 Program
DATE: 6 May 2017
VENUE: Gorman Arts Centre
During this time participants will register for the day
When a lack of political voice leads to disempowerment, disengagement and disadvantage, personal voices speak up. In this panel, four women offer personal testimony on the politics that affect them. These testimonies will be read live and followed by a panel discussion.
Slam poetry gives voice to a range of political and social issues. In this workshop participants will work on a piece about the things that matter to them.
When making space for female voices in male dominated industries, what challenges do women face? How are they treated differently because of their gender? What ideas would we have missed out on if women weren’t in these spaces? And how can we make the way easier for the women of the future?
Bec Taylor leads participants through the art of songwriting. In this workshop young writers will learn how to craft their words to fit to music. How does that change the writing? Can music be political? Can you still be a songwriter if you’re performance-shy?
In this 45-minute session, two of our Girls Write Up speakers will answer some of the anonymous questions posted in the Ask Me Anything box over the course of the day. This is the chance for audience members to ask questions they’ve always wanted to ask, but never had the opportunity.
