21/5/15: Stella at Sydney Writers’ Festival: Gender, Genre and Literary Prestige
One of Australia’s most acclaimed authors and former Stella Prize judge Kate Grenville (The Secret River, One Life) and novelist and essayist Ceridwen Dovey (Blood Kin, Only the Animals) join 2015 Stella Prize winner Emily Bitto and Stella Prize executive director Aviva Tuffield to discuss the expectations that confront female writers of both fiction and nonfiction, and the role prizes can play in either reinforcing or helping break down gender and genre stereotypes.
