Join us on Thursday 6 February at 6 p.m. at the beautiful Melba Spiegeltent as we celebrate creative women looking to the future and announce the 2020 Stella Prize longlistees.
The evening will be hosted by writer, columnist and commentator Jamila Rizvi, and will feature readings from award-winning journalist and filmmaker Santilla Chingaipe; critically-acclaimed author Briohny Doyle; and writer, academic and co-editor of #MeToo: Stories of the Australian movement Natalie Kon-Yu.
The five Stella judges — Louise Swinn (chair), Monica Attard, Jack Latimore, Zoya Patel and Leni Shilton — will also reveal the 12 books that have been longlisted for the 2020 Stella Prize, and we’ll end the night on the dance floor with beats by Soju Gang.

ARTISTS
Jamila Rizvi is author of the best-selling Not Just Lucky, a career manifesto for millennial women and The Motherhood, an anthology of letters about life with a newborn. She is Editor-at-Large of the Nine Network’s Future Women, host of their weekly podcast and a columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Jamila has been named as one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review.
Briohny Doyle is the author of The Island Will Sink and Adult Fantasy. Her criticism, short fiction and poetry has appeared in The Monthly, The Sunday Times, The Lifted Brow, The Age, Overland, and Meanjin. She in a lecturer at Deakin University.
Santilla Chingaipe is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker based in Melbourne. Her work explores migration, cultural identities and politics. She was awarded a State Library of Victoria Fellowship to research African migration to Australia pre-federation. She reports regularly for The Saturday Paperand is a member of the federal government’s advisory group on Australia-Africa relations. Her film credits include the landmark SBS documentary, DATE MY RACE. She wrote and directed, BLACK AS ME and her latest documentary series THIRD CULTURE KIDS is currently streaming on ABC iView. In 2019, Santilla was recognised at the United Nations as one of the most influential people of African descent.
Dr Natalie Kon-yu is a writer, academic and editor whose work has been published nationally and internationally. She is the co-commissioning editor of #Me Too: Stories from the Australian Women’s Movement (Picador, 2019), Mothers and Others: Why Not All Women are Mothers and All Mothers are Not the Same (Pan Macmillan, 2015) and Just Between Us: Australian Writers Tell the Truth about Female Friendship (Pan Macmillan 2013). Natalie was the co-director of the Stella Diversity Count in 2016 and is researching cultural diversity in the Australian Publishing Industry.
Soju Gang has been a prominent member of Melbourne’s nightlife scene since 2013; along with being someone who’s easily recongisable with her stand out style reminiscent of the colourful 80s and 90s; but also as a club promoter and host, party planner and socialite. Since becoming a DJ in 2017, she’s played for some of Melbourne’s most popular spots to party as well as an array of community events.
