A season of Goodwill
Jason Steger reports on Stella’s fundraising efforts and goals. ‘The steering committee is looking for a three-year commitment and directs would-be partners to the Orange Prize for fiction, in Britain, which was first presented in 1996 but proposed by a group of interested industry types four years earlier – the Stella is moving swiftly in comparison – and has helped give Orange a significant profile in the arts world. Interestingly, the prize component of the Orange comes from an endowment by an anonymous donor. Orange funds the rest. But you don’t have to be loaded to help the Stella; everyone can help. The organisers are after seed funding to help set up events this year and ensure that the prize has as much chance of going ahead as possible.’
