Celebrating 2018!

It’s been a big year here at Stella. This year, we’ve worked with over 600 teens in four states across Australia through Girls Write Up in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Wodonga.

From over 170 entries to the 2018 Stella Prize, the twelve shortlisted books by Australian women writers “reflect the importance of imagination in all of our lives” and “challenges the reader to experience the pleasures of reading different forms of writing”.

We were thrilled that the 2018 Stella Prize was awarded to Alexis Wright for ‘Tracker’ a collective biography of Aboriginal activist Tracker Tilmouth. In May this year, we released the results of the 2017 Stella Count, assessing gender representation in the book pages of Australian newspapers and journals. While we can see that equality in gender representation is getting closer since the first year the study was published in 2012, we are still not there. In fact, the overall representation of women across review pages has fallen from 48% in 2016 to 46% in 2017. You can explore the full results and see how your favourite publication did now.
