Join us for the 2021 Stella Prize Award Night
Join us for a very special online event, on Thursday 22 April from 7pm AEST, as we announce the winner of the 2021 Stella Prize.
To mark the occasion, much-loved screen and stage icon Noni Hazlehurst AM will host an evening of storytelling and ideas to be broadcast online to readers around Australia. Taking to the virtual stage, all six Stella Prize shortlisted authors (Rebecca Giggs, S.L. Lim, Laura Jean McKay, Louise Milligan, Mirandi Riwoe and Evie Wyld) will respond to the evening’s theme, ‘If They Could Talk: On Voice and Voicelessness’.
Each of shortlistees will reflect on voices heard and unheard in their own fictional and investigative works – and our responsibility as readers, and citizens, to listen. Whether it’s the silenced stories of victims, the coded language of animals or the forgotten figures of history, if they could talk, what might they say?
In the spirit of the evening, this year’s Stella Address will be presented by Gomeroi woman, writer and academic Amy Thunig, who’ll explore the power of stories to shape and sustain us. The event will also feature music from Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, who have honoured the late Ruby Hunter’s story and songwriting in their new album, Crossover.
Free, bookings recommended. Closed captions available.
Stella needs your support to continue our work celebrating women’s writing in Australia! Please consider a donation when booking for this free event; donations are tax deductible and every dollar counts.
