The autumn Literary Preview, presented in partnership with State Library Victoria and Readings, treated book lovers to an exclusive showcase of the recently announced 2022 Stella shortlist. Hear about the books which are in the running for the $50,000 Stella Prize and find your next great read.
The wonderful Astrid Edwards hosted the evening, and actress Chanelle Macri performed readings from the shortlisted books during the event.

Chanella Macri is an actor, writer, and theatre-maker who grew up on Dharug Country. In 2017 she graduated from the VCA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Practice, the Patricia Kennedy Award, and as Valedictorian of the University of Melbourne VCA and MCM. In 2019 she received two Green Room Award nominations for Performer and Ensemble in Independent Theatre (Moral Panic).
Theatre credits include; Let Bleeding Girls Lie (dir. Olivia Satchell), House (dir. Luke Kerridge) for Barking Gecko Theatre Company, Australian Realness (dir. Janice Muller) for Malthouse Theatre, Whale (dir. Katrina Cornwell) for Darebin Speakeasy, Truly Madly Britney (dir. Hannah Fallowfield) for Theatre Works, Moral Panic (dir. Bridget Balodis) for Darebin Speakeasy, Red Stitch’s Suddenly Last Summer (dir. Stephen Nicolazzo), La Mama’s Crazy Brave (dir. Melanie Beddie), and Speak of the Devil (self-devised) for Melbourne Fringe 2017 and Adelaide Fringe 2018.
Chanella is a member of the Red Stitch Actors’ Ensemble, the New Working Group and in 2022 will have her play, Atlantis, premiere for the Suitcase Series at Malthouse Theatre.
Astrid Edwards is a bibliophile. She hosts The Garret: Writers on Writing, reviews books, judges literary prizes, and teaches in the Associate Degree of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University. She is the former Chair of Melbourne Writers Festival and the former Deputy Chair of Writers Victoria and currently serves as a Member of the Victorian Disability Advisory Council.
